AMR in Nigeria: Understanding the Rising Threat of Antimicrobial Resistance

Recommended Posts

AMR in Nigeria is a growing public health concern that poses serious risks to the effectiveness of life-saving treatments. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites adapt in ways that render medicines like antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals ineffective. In Nigeria, this issue is intensifying due to multiple factors including self-medication, over-the-counter access to antibiotics, poor hygiene practices, misuse in agriculture, and limited public awareness.
